WORK IN PROGRESS…….

Work is well underway on repairing and restoring external sections of the main chapel building at Tabernacle which dates back to 1912.

The £36,000 project, supported by a grant from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Community Regeneration Fund, is being undertaken by H. Smith Building Services Ltd, Ton Pentre following a competitive tendering process. It is being managed, on behalf of the church, by Hurley and Davies Ltd, property consultants, of Oakdale.

Work on renewing the cement rendering on both sides of the chapel and on repairing the castle roofs is due to be completed shortly along with work on the guttering and other damage caused by the February fire in neighbouring shops. The ground floor and first floor windows will be replaced and the front of the chapel will be given a general “makeover”. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Members and visitors to the church are asked to take special care during the next few weeks although safe walkways are being maintained to minimise disruption to our normal services and activities.

The Purposes of the Anointing of the Holy Spirit

Soon we will be celebrating Whitsun – the Day of Pentecost when God’s church was born. So why does God anoint us and empower us with His Holy Spirit?

Just take a look at Acts 1: 5-8:  “ for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”  He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

One purpose of the Holy Spirit anointing is to give us power to be witnesses. Many of us fear witnessing because we think we have to do it with our own natural abilities and persuasive powers. That’s wrong! The Bible clearly states “You will receive power (to be his witnesses) when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” There are no powerless Christians when they are filled with the Holy Spirit and walking in the anointing of God. It is the Holy Spirit – not you – that makes you a good witness.

Read Luke 4: 18-19 to see how Doctor Luke sums up the main purposes of being anointed with the Holy Spirit. It enables us to preach the Good News effectively, to proclaim freedom for the “prisoners” of sin, to bring recovery of sight for the blind i.e. physical and spiritual healing, to release the oppressed – those struggling because of sin, sickness and injustice. Finally, we are to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour – to those ignorant of the wonderfully comforting message of God’s grace.

Let’s broadcast this message near and far. ..but a good place to start is in Newbridge !
