THE GREATEST MIRACLE …BEYOND DOUBT!

Have you ever asked yourself why Jesus stayed on earth a full 40 days after He rose from the grave? Why didn’t He ascend immediately into heaven? These were some of the questions that led to a lively debate in a Bible study group recently.

Surely, one reason was to demonstrate to His disciples and other followers that He truly was alive. After all, they knew the Roman authorities had put Jesus to death and that His body had been taken down from the cross and sealed in a tomb. When that happened, they were filled with despair and fear; many even went into hiding. They had believed Jesus was the promised Messiah – and now their hopes were shattered. They had forgotten His promise that He would return from the grave, and they felt they had no future.

But when Jesus appeared among them after the resurrection, their lives were changed. The greatest miracle in all history had just taken place: Jesus Christ was alive! During those 40 days, He appeared to various groups of disciples, proving beyond doubt to them that he had been raised from the dead by the power of God. Over two decades later, the Apostle Paul wrote that “He appeared to more than 500 of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living”   (1 Corinthians 15:6).

Another reason, however, why Jesus stayed on earth then was to teach His disciples, and prepare them for the task of telling the world about Christ. That leads to a key question that we must all answer: have you put your faith in the Risen Christ, and are you seeking to share His message of salvation with others?

 WELCOME JEEMIN

God has answered our prayers with the arrival last month of Jeemin Kim at Tabernacle. Jeemin, formerly based at Llanelli, will take up a role combining the duties of Youth Pastor and Youth Worker.

She will be actively involved in supporting the volunteers who help run the Wednesday football sessions and Friday Youth Club as well as supporting our growing Sunday School.

Jeemin, who has now found accommodation at Newbridge, has committed herself to working at Tabernacle for at least a year. Please pray that God will bless her and that she will be able to make new friends with people of her own age group as she settles down in the area.

“WESLEY HALL” REUNION

More than 50 years ago, a thriving after-church young people’s fellowship used to meet at the Wesley Hall schoolroom.

In its heyday as many as 200 young people from all parts of the Western Valley and further afield gathered to praise God.

On Saturday, May 10th (3.30pm) a special “Wesley Hall” reunion will be held at Tabernacle, organised by some of the original leaders including Clive Sheridan and Len Rowlands.

Please pass on this information to anyone you know who attended the Wesley Hall meetings in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
