PUT YOUR FAITH TO WORK IN THE COMMUNITY

As Christians, we are but pilgrims and short-term residents in this world.  We have duties regarding our spiritual growth and development but we also have a duty toward those who are still of this world. “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” (1 Peter 2:12).

One arena where we fulfil our duty to those in the world is “the community”…the cities, towns and neighbourhoods in which we live and the relationships we have with our neighbours and fellow citizens. What impact should our faith have as members of the community and how can our communities become a place to evangelize the lost?

In 1Th 4:1112, Paul gave general instructions concerning Christians living in this world: to lead a quiet life, to mind our own business, to work with our own hands and to love those who are outside God’s kingdom. Although Jesus Christ must be Lord in our lives, we must also obey those in authority (Titus 3:1), pay our taxes and pray for those in authority.

We are also to shine as lights in the world holding fast to the Word of faith (Php 2: 14-16), spread the Word ands influence others for the good by the personal example we set.

Living in our community is a wonderful opportunity to be a positive influence on our friends and neighbours and to be a blessing wherever we find ourselves. Let our work in the community help us to demonstrate the value of a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and to reach others for Him through the gospel!

“WESLEY HALL” REUNION

More than 50 years ago, a thriving after-church young people’s fellowship used to meet at the Wesley Hall schoolroom. In its heyday as many as 200 young people from all parts of the Western Valley and further afield gathered to praise God.

On Saturday, May 10th (3.30pm) a special “Wesley Hall” reunion will be held at Tabernacle, organised by some of the original leaders including Clive Sheridan and Len Rowlands.

Please pass on this information to anyone you know who attended the Wesley Hall meetings in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
